报告摘要:

“LCD or OLED: who wins?” is recently a hot debate. Can LCD outperform OLED in color saturation and motion picture response time? To address the color challenge, I will present quantum-dot enhanced LCDs with color gamut approaching Rec2020 while keeping high optical efficiency. To eliminate color shift and obtain high contrast ratio over a wide viewing angle, I will describe single-domain LCDs with quasi-collimated backlight and freeform engineered diffuser. To reduce motion picture image blurs, two factors play equally important roles: high TFT frame rate and fast LC response time. To achieve fast response time, I will introduce recent advances in ultra-low viscosity LC materials, and two optically isotropic LCDs (polymer-stabilized blue phase and hyper-twisted nematic) with submillisecond response time. Benefited from these promising nanotechnologies, the dawn of a next LCD evolution is around the corner.

吴诗聪(Shin-Tson Wu)博士,现为美国中佛罗里达大学光学与光子学院的Pegasus教授。吴教授是美国佛罗里达州发明家名人堂首批入选者之一 (2014年),美国发明家学院的 Charter Fellow (2012年),IEEE,OSA,SID和SPIE会士 (Fellow),被聘为南京大学名誉教授。他获得了2014年OSA Esther Hoffman Beller奖章,2011年SID Slottow-Owaki奖,2010年OSA Joseph Fraunhofer奖,2008 SPIE G. G. Stokes奖和2008 SID Jan Rajchman奖。他曾合作撰写了7本书籍。他发表超过470篇论文,拥有82件授权美国专利,著作累计被引20,000余次。
